The camshaft is part of a vehicle’s valve train. It is a car part which is located in the engine and consists of metal and aluminium. The camshaft looks like a rod with egg-shaped discs called the cam-lobes. The latter operate the valves and push rods in the car’s engine. The valves control the air and fuel mixture flow in the engine.
A camshaft is put into motion by the timing belt. One end is often connected to the belt pulley which helps driving the drive belt. The pulley itself is put into motion by the camshaft.
In most vehicles, the camshaft is fitted into the cylinder head or into the crankshaft.
